EPL: Chelsea target 18-year-old Atalanta defender Ahanor

Chelsea is actively pursuing Atalanta's promising 18-year-old defender, Honest Ahanor, signaling a continued focus on acquiring young talent with significant long-term potential. The Italian club has reportedly set a €40 million (£34.3 million) valuation for the left-back, and negotiations are underway.

According to BBC Sport, Chelsea's interest in Ahanor emerged during their earlier negotiations for Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra in July. Ahanor, who primarily plays left-back, arrived at Atalanta from Genoa last summer for an initial €16 million, with potential add-ons reaching €4 million. He quickly established himself as a regular starter, making 28 Serie A appearances in his breakthrough season and gaining valuable European experience with his Champions League debut.

The teenager's impressive progress has also caught the eye of the Italian national team, earning him a call-up for friendly matches in May. His potential move to Chelsea would represent a significant step in his rapid career ascent, having moved from Genoa to a key role in Serie A and now attracting international attention.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has been actively reshaping the squad since his July appointment, with substantial additions already made, including England midfielder Morgan Rogers for a club-record £117 million and experienced players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. Ahanor, however, would represent a different type of signing, a young defender already proving his capabilities at a high level.

The crucial decision for Chelsea now rests on whether they are willing to meet Atalanta's €40 million asking price to secure the highly-rated teenager's signature. Chelsea recently began their Premier League campaign with a victory and are preparing for their next match against Brighton.
