The Ankara 32nd Civil Court of First Instance has ordered Özel to pay 300,000 Turkish Lira in moral damages.

The lawsuit stemmed from a speech Özel delivered on July 5, 2025, at the CHP headquarters. Erdoğan's legal team deemed Özel's remarks directed at the President as a "severe violation of personal rights" and "unjust accusations," prompting the legal action. The court's decision mandates that Özel compensate President Erdoğan for the alleged damages.

Erdoğan's lawyer, Hüseyin Aydın, announced the court's decision via social media, stating, "In the lawsuit we filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the Ankara 32nd Civil Court of First Instance due to the inappropriate statements and unjust accusations targeting our President in his speech on July 5, 2025, at the CHP Headquarters, the court has ruled for 300,000 lira in moral damages."

The context for Özel's speech involved the detention of several mayors from the Republican People's Party as part of an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Following these detentions, the CHP's Central Executive Board convened an extraordinary meeting, after which Özel made his remarks.
