Erick Pulgar accepts Flamengo's renewed contract offer through 2028

Brazilian club Flamengo has successfully negotiated a contract extension with Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar, securing his services until 2028. The agreement follows intensified negotiations and the club's final counteroffer, which Pulgar has accepted.

While the new contract may not meet all of Pulgar's initial salary demands, Flamengo made adjustments that satisfied the player. The club and Pulgar are now in the process of exchanging contract documentation for the final signing. This resolution puts an end to a period of uncertainty surrounding the midfielder's future.

Pulgar, who joined Flamengo in July 2022, has been a significant contributor, playing 164 matches, scoring six goals, and providing nine assists. He has also been part of ten title-winning teams, including two Copa Libertadores victories. His previous contract was set to expire in December 2027, and his release clause, reportedly around $4 million, was considered low by many.

Several clubs, particularly from Saudi Arabia, had shown interest in acquiring Pulgar, with NEOM SC being a notable suitor. The extension ensures that Flamengo retains a key player while also increasing his release clause, providing greater financial protection for the club.
