Ernestina Pais dies after car hit by train in San Isidro

Host and journalist Ernestina Pais, 54, died today in San Isidro when the car she was driving was struck by a Tren de la Costa train. Police and judicial sources confirmed the incident occurred at the railway crossing located at Sáenz Peña and El Cano streets.

According to qualified sources from the Buenos Aires Provincial Police, Pais crossed the tracks with the barriers down and was hit by the train. An official statement explained, "Personnel from the San Isidro Patrol Command of the Buenos Aires police intervened in a railway accident, where a black Honda City vehicle, license plate MYP-725, driven by a woman, crossed the level crossing located at the heights of Sáenz Peña and El Cano streets, in San Isidro, with the barrier down. The vehicle was run over by a Tren de la Costa formation. It was confirmed that the sole occupant of the car, Ernestina Pais, died at the moment."

Trenes Argentinos reported that the collision occurred at 7:30 p.m. between formation UTA-8 (train 165) and the vehicle, confirming the death of the car's occupant.

Sources from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Transport indicated that Pais had been disqualified from driving until October 8, 2027, for refusing to undergo alcohol testing. This information adds a concerning layer to the investigation into the accident. In March, Pais was involved in a previous car accident in Vicente López.
