Ernestina Pais's family and friends bid farewell to the host at Chacarita Cemetery

Ernestina Pais, the Argentine journalist and television host, was laid to rest at the Chacarita Cemetery in Buenos Aires on Sunday, following her death in a road accident on Friday. Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their final respects, marking a somber end to a public life.

The funeral procession arrived at the cemetery around 11:30 a.m., after a wake that began earlier in the day. Notable figures from Argentina's cultural scene, including actors José María Muscari and María Valenzuela, comedian Malena Guinzburg, and footballer Dalma Maradona, were among those who attended to honor Pais.

Romina Gaetani, who shared the stage with Pais in the play “El divorcio del año” (The Divorce of the Year), spoke emotionally about their bond. Gaetani recalled Pais as a significant emotional support and a great companion, particularly during a difficult start to her year. "She was an example of how she supported the people she loved, people in general," Gaetani said, adding that Pais had offered comfort without even knowing her personally.

Gaetani also lamented that Pais had been happy and engaged in her work, including writing a book about her life and developing a script about her father. Rocío Igarzábal, another co-star from the play, expressed her disbelief and sorrow on social media, writing, "I want to believe it's not true. Friend, I called you. I called you a thousand times." Igarzábal shared memories of their shared aspirations and Pais's plans for a new beginning, struggling to accept her friend's passing.
