Estonia may redirect EU funds from stalled projects to Rail Baltic art

The Estonian government is considering a significant shift in how European Union funds are allocated, proposing to alter the rules for sustainable mobility projects. The core of the proposal involves redirecting funds away from urban mobility initiatives that have stalled.

According to the Climate Ministry, these changes aim to allow money originally earmarked for projects in Tallinn, Tartu, and Pärnu to be utilized elsewhere. A notable potential beneficiary mentioned is Rail Baltic Estonia (RBE), which could receive funding for art installations.

The ministry has submitted proposed amendments to the terms governing these EU-funded projects. While many of the changes are technical, several are expected to directly impact which projects can receive European Union funding in the coming years, potentially altering the landscape of infrastructure and development in Estonia.
