Estonian bookstore customers surprised by phallic shower sponge

Customers at Rahva Raamat, an Estonian bookstore, encountered an unexpected item on its shelves: a phallic-shaped shower sponge. The product, priced at 5.99 euros and available in pink, red, and black, elicited mixed reactions, with some finding it humorous and suitable for gag gifts, while others questioned its presence in a bookstore.

The item, which was advertised on Facebook, led to discussions about Rahva Raamat's product range. While some commenters embraced the sponge with humor, suggesting it as a funny gift for bachelorette parties, others expressed dismay. "How can something like this be sold in a bookstore?" one user questioned, contrasting it with typical bookstore merchandise like mugs and stationery.

Finding the sponge proved to be a minor quest within the store, with a staff member blushing and needing assistance to locate it. It was eventually found in the souvenir section, on the bottom shelf. The staff member noted that only two were left, a pink and a black one, calling them "popular."

Rahva Raamat's marketing manager, Liisa Püss, explained that the store's selection goes beyond books to include gifts, board games, stationery, and lifestyle products. "Our goal is to offer a diverse assortment for different customers, and this includes humorous gifts and party items aimed at adult shoppers," Püss stated. She added that the product has received positive feedback but acknowledged that customer expectations for store offerings can vary.
