Estonian youth abroad connect with homeland at summer school

Young people with Estonian roots living abroad are actively seeking methods to maintain their connection to the Estonian language and culture. The inaugural Global Estonian Youth Ambassador summer school provided a platform for these individuals to convene, exchange insights, and address shared concerns, thereby reinforcing their bond with Estonia.

Among the attendees is 26-year-old Szoraja Fekri, who hails from Hungary. Although Fekri has resided in Hungary her entire life, her Estonian heritage stems primarily from her mother's side. The summer school offered her and others a unique opportunity to engage with their roots.

The initiative aims to foster a sense of community and shared identity among the Estonian diaspora. By bringing these young individuals together, the program facilitates the transmission of cultural values and linguistic skills across generations and geographical boundaries. The experiences shared at the school are expected to empower participants to become active custodians of their Estonian identity in their respective countries.
