Etcheverry advances to Kitzbühel semifinals

Argentine tennis player Tomás Etcheverry has advanced to the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Kitzbühel, Austria, after a hard-fought victory over Peru's Ignacio Buse. Etcheverry, currently ranked 31st in the world, won the quarterfinal match 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 in one hour and 43 minutes.

The match saw Etcheverry, accompanied by his coach Waly Grinóvero, trailing 2-5 in the second set. However, he managed to regain his composure, improve his precision, and utilize his greater experience against the 22-year-old Buse to turn the match around. Etcheverry registered three aces, one double fault, won 56% of his first serves, and secured 81% of points on his first serve and 56% on his second. He created twelve break-point opportunities against Buse, converting four to seal the victory.

This semifinal appearance marks Etcheverry's tenth ATP Tour semifinal, all of which have been on clay courts. It is his third time reaching the final four of a tournament this year, having previously reached the semifinals in Buenos Aires and won the title in Rio de Janeiro. His win against Buse improved his record against top-50 opponents this year to 4-11, with previous victories over Zizou Bergs, Térence Atmane, and Jack Draper.

Meanwhile, fellow Argentines Mariano Navone and Sebastián Báez were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Navone lost to France's Quentin Halys, and Báez was defeated by Germany's Yannick Hanfmann. The tournament in Kitzbühel is one of the last clay-court events of the season before the North American hard-court swing.
