EU Commissioner Urges Kosovo Parties to Compromise After Elections

Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, has called upon Kosovo's political parties to embrace compromise and collaboration in the wake of the recent extraordinary parliamentary elections. The appeal aims to ensure institutional stability in the aftermath of the vote.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Várhelyi extended congratulations to the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, for his electoral success. She specifically commended the electoral process itself, describing it as positive, peaceful, inclusive, and orderly. "Congratulations to Albin Kurti on the election victory in Kosovo, and especially on the peaceful, inclusive, and orderly voting process," Várhelyi wrote.

Várhelyi underscored the critical link between Kosovo's aspirations for European Union membership and the need for internal political cohesion. "For Kosovo to advance on its path to the European Union, political forces must now unite and find compromises to build institutional stability," she stated. This call highlights the EU's expectation that Kosovo's political landscape will move towards constructive dialogue and cooperation.

Furthermore, the European Commissioner expressed her anticipation of visiting Kosovo in the near future. This visit is intended to bolster efforts related to the European integration process and the implementation of the Economic Growth Plan. "I look forward to returning to Kosovo as soon as possible to intensify work on Kosovo's European integration and continue activities related to financing under the Economic Growth Plan," Várhelyi added, signaling the EU's continued commitment to supporting Kosovo's development and reform agenda.
