European championships deliver further frustration for Ramsay-Peaty

Adam Peaty, Britain's world record holder in breaststroke, voiced his frustration and confusion after finishing 20th in the 50m breaststroke heats at the European championships in Paris. The triple Olympic gold medalist was eighth in his heat with a time of 27.34 seconds, far from his world record of 25.95 set in 2017.

"These performances are not good enough at all. Even now I'm like it's so bad that I'm confused," Peaty said. "It’s very frustrating but I’m hoping we can figure it out."

This result follows a challenging week for the 31-year-old swimmer. He finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke final, marking his first defeat in that event at a European aquatics championship. He also secured bronze medals in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games.

Italian swimmers Nicolo Martinenghi and Simone Cerasuolo posted the fastest times in the 50m heats, with Martinenghi, the reigning 100m Olympic champion, winning the heat in 26.65 seconds.
