EVA Air launches direct flights to Delhi, bridging Taiwan and India

EVA Air is set to launch a direct flight route from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Delhi, India, on December 1, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two regions. This new service will make EVA Air the sole Taiwanese airline offering direct flights to India, aiming to provide travelers with a more convenient and comfortable flight experience.

The direct flight will play a key role in exchanges between Taiwan and India, so I am very much looking forward to it and am happy to see EVA Air's direct flights.

Chen Mu-ming, Taiwan's representative in India, expressed his strong anticipation for the direct flights, highlighting their crucial role in fostering exchanges between Taiwan and India. He noted that direct flights between the two nations were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, leaving a six-year gap. The resumption of this service is seen as a welcome development, especially as economic and personal exchanges between Taiwan and India have been steadily increasing post-pandemic.

Chen explained that the direct flights will significantly shorten travel time to approximately six hours, making it more appealing for business travelers and tourists alike. He anticipates that this increased accessibility will not only encourage more Taiwanese to visit India but also attract more Indian tourists to Taiwan. With Indian travelers increasingly exploring destinations in East Asia, Chen hopes Taiwan can become a more prominent destination for them.

The route will operate five times a week, utilizing Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Initial responses from the travel industry indicate strong demand, with early December flights reportedly almost sold out. This initiative is the result of at least two years of effort by EVA Air and other stakeholders to re-establish direct air connectivity, which previously required layovers in cities like Bangkok or Singapore, extending travel time to over 10 hours.

Direct flights will be very convenient for business travelers, as they will shorten the flight time to 6 hours, and more people will be willing to come to India, and more people will be willing to go to Taiwan.
