Evenepoel wins San Sebastian Classic for fourth time after Tour de France success

Belgian cycling star Remco Evenepoel has continued his winning streak, securing his fourth victory at the Clásica de San Sebastián. This triumph comes merely six days after he achieved second place in the prestigious Tour de France.

The 26-year-old rider for Red Bull - BORA-hansgrohe demonstrated remarkable resilience during the 221.2 km race. Evenepoel managed to overcome a significant setback – a flat tire with approximately 50 kilometers left to the finish line. He successfully bridged the gap of about half a minute lost during the bike change.

In the final kilometers, Evenepoel, alongside Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz, broke away from the main peloton on the last climb, about eight kilometers from the finish. Evenepoel ultimately bested Carapaz, the reigning Olympic champion and winner of the Tour de France's polka dot jersey for the best climber, in a final sprint.

British rider Ben Tulett finished third, winning the sprint from a smaller group that crossed the line after Evenepoel and Carapaz. When asked about the possibility of a fifth victory in San Sebastián, Evenepoel stated his immediate focus is on rest and preparing to defend his second World Championship title in road racing, scheduled for late September in Canada. Croatian cyclist Fran Miholjević was among the 69 riders who did not finish the race.
