Evening of jazz and remembrance at Lisinski: Homage to the unforgettable pianist and composer Matija Dedić

Lisinski Hall will host a special evening of jazz and remembrance on June 7 with a concert dedicated to the late Croatian jazz musician Matija Dedić. The event, titled "Matija Dedić – Jazz Portrait," commemorates the first anniversary of his unexpected passing.

The program is designed to honor one of Croatia's most significant jazz artists. It will become an annual event held in the Small Hall, featuring his close colleagues, collaborators, friends, and admirers. This year's inaugural event will focus on Dedić primarily as a jazz composer, presenting a selection of his original works performed in solo and trio settings – his preferred musical formats.

Selected pieces will reflect his artistic vision, emotions, and virtuosity, spanning from his early compositions to his most recent works. These pieces blend contemporary jazz, classical influences, and Dedić's authentic musical signature. His long-time collaborators and trio members, drummer Krunoslav Levačić and double bassist Žiga Golob, will perform alongside Vasil Hadžimanov, a colleague and close friend of Dedić.

"Through the prism of closeness and love for Matija and his music, we have strived to bring his jazz opus and expression closer to the audience, which was his fundamental habitus as a composer and performer," said program artistic director Tamara Obrovac. Prior to the concert, an exhibition of photographs of Matija by Ivo Dunat and Vedran Metelko will open in the Small Hall's foyer at 6 p.m. A listening session, led by Davor Hrvoj, will also take place simultaneously, featuring discussions by experts on Dedić's compositional and instrumental work.
