‘Everything is against us’: Jaguar Land Rover suppliers fear the impact of cutbacks

“Everything is against us,” says David Roberts, chair of Coventry-based Evtec, as Jaguar Land Rover prepares to cut 4,000 jobs over two years.

Evtec, a tier-one supplier to Jaguar Land Rover, employs 900 highly skilled workers across multiple sites and operates precision machinery. But Roberts says the manufacturer’s outlook has become increasingly difficult after the carmaker announced its reductions this week.

The announcement came as Chancellor John Healey sought to promote Britain’s growth prospects in his first major speech, delivered nearby. For companies tied to Jaguar Land Rover, however, the focus is on how the carmaker’s cutbacks could affect the wider automotive sector.

Jaguar Land Rover and Evtec are both headquartered in Coventry, linking the employment decision directly to the local industrial base. Suppliers are warning about the consequences and calling for government support as they assess the effect of the planned cuts.
