Ex-AGF Malami nominated Kebbi ADC governorship candidate for 2027

Abubakar Malami, Nigeria's former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has secured the African Democratic Congress (ADC) nomination for Kebbi State governor in the 2027 elections. His media aide, Mohammed Doka, announced the candidacy via Facebook, also revealing the party's three senatorial nominees.

I sincerely appreciate the confidence and support shown by leaders, stakeholders, and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among the senatorial candidates is Aminu Bande, a retired military officer who previously ran for governor under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023. He will represent Kebbi Central District. Ibrahim Mera and Garba Limi received nominations for Kebbi North and Kebbi South, respectively.

This political development unfolds as Malami navigates significant legal challenges. He is currently facing criminal prosecution in Abuja, led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Earlier this year, a court ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 luxury properties, estimated at ₦213 billion, believed to be proceeds of unlawful activities. These assets are reportedly linked to Malami and two of his sons.

The EFCC has arraigned Malami, his wife, and his son on a 16-count charge. They are accused of conspiracy, concealment, and laundering billions of illicit funds between 2015 and 2025, spanning his time in the late President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Malami's media aide stated the party remains committed to purposeful leadership and sustainable development for Kebbi State.
