Ex-Chavista Minister Denies Omission in Housing Mission: 'Impossible to Build Without Soil Studies'

Former Venezuelan minister Farruco Sesto has vehemently denied reports suggesting that buildings under the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela (Great Venezuelan Housing Mission) were constructed without essential soil studies.

In a video circulating on social media, Sesto, who previously served as minister for the Transformation of Caracas, categorically rejected claims that he admitted to omitting these analyses due to urgent delivery needs. He dismissed the assertions of engineering flaws in the government's housing policy as false. "One doesn't know if some are more stupid than evil or more evil than stupid, I could never have said such a foolish thing because in Venezuela it is impossible to build without soil studies," Sesto stated.

Sesto explained the methodology for executing public works, highlighting that the private sector demands adherence to technical regulations. "In Venezuela, the state does not build directly, it builds through private companies. That company would never agree to do piling without a soil study," he asserted. He reaffirmed the critical role of calculation and engineering professionals in state infrastructure projects, emphasizing that companies would not undertake calculations without soil studies, deeming it "simply impossible."

Despite Sesto's strong denial, the organization Transparency Venezuela has previously reported that various projects under the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela were erected on geological faults and in risk zones. These projects allegedly failed to meet the corresponding technical and safety standards, contradicting the former minister's claims.
