Ex-Finnish Lawmaker Seeks Russian Citizenship, Citing 'Fascist West'

Ano Turtiainen, a former member of the Finnish Parliament and previously associated with the Finns Party, has announced her intention to seek Russian citizenship. Turtiainen relocated to Russia last year and has expressed a strong desire to establish a new life in the country.

Speaking to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Turtiainen stated, "I am learning Russian every day. I intend to apply for Russian citizenship and my goal is to build a new life here. The people here are nice and good – that is the best side of Russia."

Her move and subsequent pursuit of citizenship come after a period of political activity in Finland, where she was known for her affiliation with the nationalist Finns Party. Her public statements have previously included critical remarks about the West, aligning with narratives often promoted in Russian state media.

Turtiainen's decision to seek Russian citizenship reflects a growing trend among some individuals with nationalist or anti-establishment views to find a new home in Russia. Her stated admiration for the Russian people and her commitment to learning the language underscore her intention to integrate fully into Russian society.
