Ex-Footballer Lee Chun-soo Slams KFA Officials for Unprofessional Conduct

Former South Korean football star Lee Chun-soo has sharply criticized public figures within the country's football association for what he deems unprofessional behavior. Lee specifically called out Moon Jin-hee, the former head of the Korea Football Association's (KFA) referee committee, for her conduct during a parliamentary hearing and Hong Myung-bo, the former national team coach, for his actions following his resignation.

Lee's criticism was prompted by Moon's response to a lawmaker during a KFA hearing on July 30. When asked to sit up straight and answer politely, Moon placed a hand in her pocket and retorted, "Are you telling me to speak but not you? Lower your voice." She further angered some by telling another lawmaker, "Don't interfere." Moon subsequently resigned from her position.

Lee also referenced Hong Myung-bo's departure from a press conference after the national team's failure to qualify for the World Cup. Hong, who had read a brief statement, walked away with his left hand in his pocket, drawing criticism from football fans and YouTubers alike. Lee stated, "You have to cut off your hands. Why do both Chairman Hong and Chairman Moon keep their hands in their pockets?"

Lee stressed that public hearings and press conferences are crucial moments for rebuilding trust and demonstrating change within the KFA. He argued that while misunderstandings can occur, the behavior and word choices of officials must reflect the gravity of the situation and the public's attention. He believes such actions undermine the efforts to reform the association and damage the sport's image.
