Ex-IG Abba dumps APC, joins PDP in Jigawa

Former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba has switched political allegiance, defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State. Abba announced his move on Saturday during a rally in Bamaina, the hometown of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, a prominent PDP figure.

I have left the APC for the PDP because I believe this is the platform to deliver real representation for Jigawa South West.

Abba expressed his ambition to represent the Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, stating that he believes the PDP offers the best platform to achieve this goal and deliver effective representation. He indicated that his campaign would prioritize security, agriculture, and youth employment, vowing to champion the concerns of farmers, youths, and women if elected.

I will take the voice of our farmers, our youths, and our women to the Senate if elected.

Sule Lamido welcomed Abba's defection, describing it as a major boost that will strengthen the PDP. He lauded Abba's record, suggesting his entry brings credibility and reach to the party. Lamido also expressed optimism that more politicians would join the PDP, noting the presence of PDP governorship candidates from Kano, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, and Jigawa states at the rally as a sign of the party's unity in the North.

Jigawa State PDP Chairman Babandi Gumel affirmed the party's readiness to integrate Abba and his supporters into its existing structure. The PDP governorship candidate in Jigawa, Mustapha Lamido, echoed the sentiment, stating that Abba's defection enhances the party's prospects in the state for the upcoming 2027 elections. Supporters at the rally celebrated Abba's formal reception into the PDP with slogans and flags.
