Ex-IG Adamu dumps APC after losing governorship primary

Mohammed Adamu, the former Inspector General of Police, has resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his aspirations for the 2027 governorship race in Nasarawa State. Adamu submitted his resignation letter to the executives of the Makama ward in Lafia on Monday.

Today I address my letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress with immediate effect.

In his letter, Adamu stated that his decision was not taken lightly, but recent developments within the party, particularly the conduct of the governorship primary election in Nasarawa State, made it difficult for him to continue his political activities under the APC banner. He emphasized his belief in core democratic principles.

"I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party," Adamu wrote. "Unfortunately, the events surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state."

This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa State have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party.

Adamu indicated that after extensive consultations with supporters, political associates, and family members, he decided to withdraw his membership to pursue his political ambitions on a different platform. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the APC during his tenure.

Earlier in April, the Director General of the Mohammed Abubakar Adamu 2027 Political Movement, Musa Hussein, had announced Adamu's intention to contest the governorship, stating their readiness to win the APC primary despite the governor's endorsement of another candidate, Senator Ahmed Wadada.
