Ex-Premier League Referee Anthony Taylor Appointed Director of Elite Refereeing in Turkey

Anthony Taylor, a highly respected former Premier League and World Cup referee, has embarked on a new chapter in his career, joining the Turkish Central Refereeing Committee as the director of elite refereeing. The announcement marks a significant move for Turkish football, bringing international expertise to its officiating standards.

Taylor concluded his illustrious 22-year refereeing career last month, having officiated in 831 matches. His final assignment was a high-profile World Cup match between Portugal and Spain. At 47, his transition into a directorial role signifies a continued commitment to the sport at its highest levels.

Taylor's move follows a trend of former English top-flight referees seeking international roles after retirement. Howard Webb and Mark Clattenburg, both prominent figures in English refereeing, have previously held senior positions in Saudi Arabia. Taylor's extensive experience in the Premier League, where he oversaw 432 matches over 16 seasons, is expected to be invaluable in his new capacity.
