Ex-Prosecutor Investigator Accused of Real Estate Fraud Arrested in Philippines After Interpol Hunt

A former investigator from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who was on the run in the Philippines after being accused of large-scale real estate fraud, has finally been apprehended. This case, involving a suspect who held a position of trust within the prosecution, has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among the young individuals who were victimized.

The suspect, identified as a man in his 30s, has been apprehended in his hideout in Cebu, Philippines.

The suspect, identified only as 'A', is accused of defrauding over ten tenants, primarily young professionals working at Samsung in the Dongtan New City area, of their rental deposits, each amounting to around 100 million won. These victims, many of whom are just starting their careers, are now facing significant financial hardship and uncertainty.

Authorities had declared the suspect a fugitive after he fled to Cebu, Philippines, on September 27th, shortly after facing multiple accusations. South Korean police, in collaboration with Interpol and the Philippine National Police's Korean Desk, launched an intensive manhunt. The suspect's passport was invalidated, and an Interpol red notice was issued, leading to his eventual capture at a hideout in Cebu.

The victims, who were unable to recover their deposits of around 100 million won each, are mostly young professionals working and commuting to nearby Samsung.
