Ex-UN rep queries dismissal of ICC Chief Prosecutor

Mohamad Safa, a former United Nations representative, has voiced skepticism regarding the recent dismissal of International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan. Safa, who previously resigned over an alleged planned nuclear attack on Iran, finds the timing of sexual misconduct allegations against Khan suspicious.

In a Facebook post, Safa highlighted that the allegations surfaced shortly after Khan reportedly sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant concerning alleged war crimes in Gaza. Safa pointed out that no public evidence has been presented to substantiate these misconduct claims.

Safa recalled that Khan had previously denied similar allegations and was cleared by a panel of judges. He also noted that the U.S. had previously imposed sanctions on Khan and other ICC officials, not for sexual misconduct, but for pursuing arrest warrants against Israeli leaders. Khan has been under U.S. sanctions since 2024 for this reason.

Allegations of misconduct had been investigated by the court's Independent Oversight Mechanism, though the case was reportedly closed after the alleged victim declined to participate.
