Exiled opposition politician Figuera lands in Venezuela for government talks

A prominent Venezuelan opposition figure has arrived in the country from Spain to participate in the first round of government-led talks. Dinorah Figuera, a former member of Venezuela's National Assembly and a long-time opposition politician in exile, landed in Barcelona, a city approximately 240 kilometers east of the capital, Caracas, on Wednesday.

Many observers hope these discussions will pave the way for elections in Venezuela, a prospect that gained attention after former President Nicolás Maduro was reportedly detained in January. Figuera, accompanied by other opposition members, expressed her focus on the official commencement of the dialogue process, which aims to "restore democratic institutions."

Figuera is scheduled to meet with Jorge Rodríguez, the president of Venezuela's parliament and the government's chief negotiator. Rodríguez is also the brother of the country's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez. According to an official agenda released by both the government and the opposition, the talks will address the ongoing efforts following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, claiming over 6,000 lives.

The agenda also includes discussions on strengthening democracy and political rights within Venezuela. The outcome of these negotiations is closely watched, as they represent a significant step in the country's complex political landscape.
