Brezno, once perceived as a town struggling with factory closures and emigration, is now at the heart of a revitalized tourism drive in Slovakia's Horehronie region. The area, rich in natural landscapes including the Low Tatras, Muránska planina, Poľana, and Slovenské rudohorie national parks, is actively attracting visitors year-round.

This transformation is fueled by a concerted effort to develop tourism, moving beyond winter sports to offer a broader range of activities. Brezno has successfully united local entrepreneurs, who previously operated in isolation, to create a more cohesive visitor experience. A key initiative is the Horehronie discount card, available online and in local tourist information centers. Purchasing this card not only supports regional tourism development and non-profit organizations but also offers savings on museums, restaurants, wellness centers, and ski lifts.

To enhance accessibility, the region supports public transport for tourists, with a ski bus operating in winter and an electric train, the "Pohronská strela," running in summer.
