Explosion in Recoleta building garage forces evacuation of 12 residents

At least 12 people were evacuated from a 13-story building in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires after an explosion rocked the building's garage on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at a building located on Junín street, between Juncal and Arenales.

Initial reports from police sources indicate that the explosion likely originated from the building's boiler, situated in the basement. Firefighters from the Recoleta division responded swiftly, conducting inspections and ensuring no residents were trapped within the structure. Emergency medical services (SAME) and the City Police were also present at the scene.

While three residents were examined for precautionary reasons, no injuries were reported, and no one required hospitalization. The explosion caused significant visible damage, including the displacement of the garage's main gate and the shattering of windows and panels throughout the building's facade. Glass fragments and debris were scattered across the entrance hall, sidewalk, and street.

Following the incident, firefighters requested the presence of Metrogas, the local gas company, to inspect the boiler and assess any potential risks before residents could return to their homes. Initial readings from the gas company, in conjunction with the Special Emergency Brigade of the Fire Department, indicated "normal parameters," according to police reports. The street remains closed to traffic, causing delays in the highly frequented area, which is surrounded by numerous businesses.
