Explosion in Suárez, Cauca injures seven, including four minors

A serious disturbance of public order occurred recently in Suárez, located in the northern part of Colombia's Cauca department. The attack took place in the corregimiento of Asnazú within this municipality.

Local authorities initially reported six people injured, including four minors aged 9, 10, 15, and 16, and two adults. This figure was later updated to seven injured, with the adults being 18, 33, and 59 years old. The detonation of an explosive device in a rural area of this jurisdiction in the country's southwestern region caused the casualties.

Mayor César Lizardo Cerón urgently addressed the severity of the situation and its direct impact on civilians on August 29. Due to severe injuries sustained from the blast, the four affected children required immediate transfer to clinics in Cali for specialized medical care. The detonation created widespread panic among residents and prompted local authorities to assess the damage and issue relevant alerts regarding the indiscriminate use of such devices.

Emergency services and the municipal administration activated necessary protocols to stabilize and provide humanitarian support to the families of all victims. Institutional forces are currently investigating the incident in this part of Cauca province, a territory frequently affected by criminal actions and territorial disputes involving armed groups operating outside the law. Local community leaders are demanding an end to the attacks and real guarantees for the protection of children and adolescents amidst the ongoing conflict.
