Explosions reported at Egypt's Damietta Port, security officials suspect drone attack

Explosions rocked Egypt's Damietta Port on Wednesday, with security officials pointing to a suspected drone attack as the cause. Maritime security firm Ambrey reported that a drone struck the U.S.-owned gas storage tanker Energos Winter, igniting a fire that subsequently spread to a second vessel, Gaslog Salem.

Two separate security sources confirmed the drone strike as the likely cause of the blasts. The crew of the affected tankers was evacuated, and Ambrey reported that the fire had been brought under control. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

Egyptian authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosions. Despite the suspicions of a drone attack, officials have not yet officially designated the incident as such. The situation remains under investigation as the port assesses the damage and reviews security protocols.
