Extortionist claiming to be from "La Empresa" linked to proceedings; demanded money from merchant

Authorities in Mexico City have brought charges against Ángel "N" for aggravated extortion after he allegedly threatened a merchant at the Central de Abasto market and demanded substantial sums of money, claiming affiliation with a group known as "La Empresa."

The investigation, led by the Fiscalía General de Justicia of Mexico City, revealed that Ángel "N" was apprehended by the Policía de Investigación (PDI) in the act of receiving 40,000 pesos from the victim. This payment was part of a larger demand, initially totaling 100,000 pesos, which began in November 2025. The victim had already paid 50,000 pesos in two installments.

According to the prosecution, the threats resumed in July of the current year, with Ángel "N" demanding another 100,000 pesos. During this period, he allegedly received 8,000 pesos from one of the merchant's employees. Faced with ongoing threats, the victim received guidance and protection measures from the Fiscalía while PDI agents conducted surveillance.

On August 6, after receiving further demands, the victim arranged to meet Ángel "N" in a loading and unloading zone at the market. Upon receiving the 40,000 pesos, the victim alerted the PDI, leading to the suspect's immediate arrest. Investigators recovered the money, a cell phone, and a motorcycle at the scene.

During a hearing on August 13, the Public Ministry presented evidence, including conversations between the victim and the accused, video recordings, and other supporting data. A judge subsequently ordered Ángel "N" to stand trial for aggravated extortion, imposing preventive detention for a period of two months while the complementary investigation is concluded. The Fiscalía CDMX emphasized that combating extortion remains a priority.
