F1: Hamilton and Antonelli Penalized Three Places at Hungaroring After Hungarian GP Qualifying

Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli have both been handed three-place grid penalties for the Hungarian Grand Prix, affecting their starting positions after qualifying.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, had initially qualified second, just 0.012 seconds behind pole-sitter Lando Norris. However, stewards penalized him for impeding Oscar Piastri during his qualifying lap. Hamilton stated he was unaware Piastri was on a fast lap when the incident occurred in the first corner. Despite his explanation, the penalty means he will start fifth, directly behind Piastri.

Antonelli, driving for Mercedes, was penalized for failing to slow down sufficiently under a yellow flag. This incident occurred when Max Verstappen spun in the final corner, forcing Antonelli to brake. The stewards determined his deceleration was not adequate, resulting in a penalty that drops him from a potential front-row start to seventh place.

With Hamilton's penalty, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari will now join Norris on the front row of the grid for Sunday's race.
