Fake Agency Probe: Reps panel gives police 48-hour ultimatum to produce alleged PFIPC DG

A Nigerian House of Representatives committee has issued a stern ultimatum to the Inspector-General of Police, demanding the appearance of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly claims to be the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). The committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, has given the police chief 48 hours to produce Adeniyi, instructing him to appear before the panel by noon on Wednesday. The directive came during a resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Lawmakers are scrutinizing the PFIPC's operations, particularly how it allegedly obtained office space and a N1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act without being a legally recognized government agency. The investigation is reportedly linked to a criminal probe initiated by the police following petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

It is not an option now. We will need him here to confirm some documents for us in such a way that will not undermine our investigation to enable us to submit our report on time.

These petitions allegedly accuse Adeniyi of falsely representing himself as the director-general of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC. Committee chairman Gagdi stressed the necessity of Adeniyi's testimony to clarify documents and allegations central to their investigation, stating, "People's names are involved. People's integrity is involved. Institutional names are involved. Institutional integrity is involved."

The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria do kindly present Mr Adeyemi on Wednesday by 12 noon. That is the ruling of the committee.

Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi informed the committee that the police had already investigated part of the allegations and filed an eight-count charge against Adeniyi before the Federal High Court. The case is ongoing, and the suspect has been arrested and arraigned. However, Abdullahi cautioned the committee against requesting details that could compromise the ongoing criminal investigation or prejudice court proceedings.
