Fake Police Officer Robs Expatriate in Kuwait During Bogus Drug Check

A daring roadside robbery occurred in Kuwait after a man posed as a police detective to target an Asian expatriate. The incident took place in the Ali Sabah Al-Salem area, leaving the victim significantly poorer and authorities searching for the suspect.

The victim, a 39-year-old expatriate, reported that the imposter approached his vehicle, identified himself as a police officer, and demanded to see his identification. The suspect then proceeded to search the car, alleging suspicion of drug-related activity. During this bogus inspection, the fake officer allegedly stole KD 390 (approximately $1,270 USD) from the victim before fleeing the scene.

Authorities are pursuing leads based on the vehicle details provided by the victim. There is suspicion that the car itself may have been stolen or that its license plates were illicitly obtained. A case has been registered at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Police Station, charging the suspect with theft and impersonating a police officer. The investigation has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Investigators are collaborating with the General Traffic Department to identify the vehicle and trace the perpetrator through official databases. In response to the incident, officials issued a warning to both residents and citizens, urging them to exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming to be security personnel. They reminded the public that legitimate Criminal Investigation Department officers are required to present official identification and allow individuals ample time to verify their credentials.
