Falconets draw South Korea in final World Cup friendly

Nigeria’s Falconets finished their World Cup preparations with a 1-1 draw against South Korea, closing a pair of warm-up matches in Poland without an injury concern.

Mary Mamudu gave Nigeria the lead in the 29th minute at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium. The Falconets held that advantage through half-time, but South Korea came back after the break and equalized from a penalty in the 78th minute.

The result followed Nigeria’s 1-0 win over tournament hosts Poland, with Mamudu also scoring in that match. Coach Moses Aduku said the team had completed its friendly schedule and was ready for the tournament. “Well, so far so good. We are done with our friendly games, and for me, we are good. No injury worries. I guess are ready. Therefore, we’re waiting for the 7th against Spain,” he said.

Aduku said Nigeria had missed one or two chances to win but praised South Korea as a strong opponent. “About the game, but for me, game was so good. We lost one or two scoring chances to win the game, but all the same. But I respect the Korean team, they are also a good side,” he said.

Nigeria will begin its Group F campaign against Spain on September 7, then play China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
