Family Drive Turns Nightmarish: Mother Dies After Wrong-Way Entry, Three Children Critical

A family road trip turned into a tragedy on Germany's A45 highway when a 34-year-old woman from Bavaria drove the wrong way, causing a fatal head-on collision. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, approximately 12:50 PM, northeast of Frankfurt.

The woman entered the highway against traffic at the Florstadt junction and collided at high speed with a car driven by a 70-year-old man. Both drivers were killed in the crash. The man died at the scene, while the woman succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Tragically, the woman's husband and their three children, aged between 10 and 15, were also in the vehicle and sustained severe injuries. They are currently in critical condition. Emergency services had to free all occupants from the wreckage, with some of the injured airlifted to hospitals.

The public prosecutor's office has requested an expert to determine the exact cause of the accident. This devastating event underscores the dangers of driving under the influence or severe disorientation, leading to catastrophic consequences.
