Family, friends, colleagues honour Alex Ekubo at service of songs

Tributes flowed from family, friends, and colleagues at a service of songs held in honor of the late Nigerian actor Alex Ekubo. The event took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos State.

Ekubo's sister-in-law, Ifezue, spoke of his deep connection to the family, noting that he became like a son upon expressing his intention to marry her sister, Anwuli. She remembered his lovable qualities, kindness, and devotion to God. Colleagues also shared heartfelt memories; Segun Arinze described Ekubo as humble, while filmmaker Omoni Oboli remarked on his unique ability to make people feel valued. Close friend IK Ogbonna, visibly emotional, read a tribute recounting their personal experiences. He reflected on Ekubo's strength during difficult times, calling him "a soldier, a wise man, a light in every room you entered, and a man full of life." Ogbonna expressed disbelief at his friend's passing, emphasizing the profound brotherly bond they shared.

The service also included messages from religious and political figures. Lead Pastor Jerry Eze of Streams of Joy International urged attendees to let go of bitterness, reminding them that earthly matters fade after death. The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, represented by the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Eno Jerry, pledged support for the family.
