Family seeks N45.1m for mother’s life-saving kidney transplant

The family of 55-year-old Mrs Opeoluwa Dorcas is urgently appealing for public support to fund a life-saving kidney transplant, estimated to cost N45.1 million. Dorcas has been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and her condition has not improved despite undergoing more than 50 dialysis sessions, each costing N45,000.

Her son, Joshua, shared that the family has exhausted its savings on her ongoing treatment, which includes regular dialysis, medications, blood transfusions, and kidney function tests. "We received support from friends and our church, but the cost of dialysis and medications has consumed almost everything we have raised," he stated.

A medical report from PurpleMed Specialist Medical and Kidney Centre estimates the total cost of the transplant at N45,113,609.09. This figure includes N27.34 million for the transplant package, N16.08 million for one year of post-transplant immunosuppressant medications, and N1.7 million for six months of post-transplant laboratory investigations.

The family is appealing to government agencies, philanthropic organizations, religious bodies, and the general public for assistance.
