FAR Rabat fans send strong message from the stands on Ceuta and Melilla, sparking debate in Spanish media

A large banner declaring Ceuta and Melilla Moroccan appeared in the stands during Morocco Fassi’s African Champions League preliminary-round match against Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC in Fez on Sunday evening.

Written in Spanish, the banner said: “Ceuta and Melilla: Two cities, one homeland: Morocco.” The supporters used the match to express their attachment to the two cities and their position on their status.

The display sparked broad discussion in the Spanish press. Marca reported that the Fatal Tigers, one of the club’s prominent supporters’ groups, raised the banner during the opening minutes of the match, as numerous flags and chants filled the stadium.

The gesture brought the issue of Ceuta and Melilla back into the spotlight. Morocco Fassi fans chose the stands at their team’s continental competition to deliver their message, presenting the display as an expression of support for the Moroccan position.
