Far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos deported from US to UK

Far-right British media personality Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States to the United Kingdom. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Yiannopoulos in New Orleans on Thursday in connection with an expired authorization to remain in the country and an existing deportation order.

The deportation occurred on Friday, according to a statement released Saturday by a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE. While the initial statement did not specify Yiannopoulos's destination, The Telegraph newspaper, citing senior U.S. sources, reported that he was flown back to Britain.

An ICE spokesperson confirmed that Yiannopoulos, 41, had been arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The spokesperson stated that Yiannopoulos legally entered the U.S. in May 2019 but subsequently violated immigration laws by overstaying his visa. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for his immigration hearing.

Ironically, Yiannopoulos, a vocal supporter of ICE and immediate deportations for individuals without legal status, now faces removal himself. He was reportedly detained while en route to a concert by rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. Yiannopoulos had previously worked on West's short-lived 2024 White House campaign and appeared to be collaborating with the rapper's company.

Previously an editor at Breitbart News and an intern for former U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Yiannopoulos's public profile has been marked by controversy. He fell out of favor within conservative circles after a video surfaced in which he appeared to condone sexual relations with minors. He also faced a ban from Twitter (now X) in 2016 for racist and misogynistic tweets, though his account was later reinstated.
