FARC Dissident 'Emerardo' Sentenced for Ambushing Army in Tuluá, Valle

The Colombian Attorney General's Office has achieved a significant judicial victory, securing a prison sentence for Esnoraldo Sánchez Rodríguez, known by the alias 'Emerardo'. This individual is identified as a member of the 'Yair Bermúdez' Front 57, a dissident faction of the FARC that continues to sow terror in the southwestern regions of the country. The sentence comes after 'Emerardo' was implicated in a violent ambush against National Army troops in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca.

The attack, which occurred on the afternoon of October 30, 2024, saw heavily armed individuals, allegedly including Sánchez Rodríguez, open fire with rifles and deploy explosives against military personnel conducting territorial control operations in the San Rafael corregimiento. The intense combat forced the attackers to flee, but not before abandoning crucial war materials and explosive components, highlighting their intent to inflict maximum damage.
