Farm2Future: Students Explore Careers Across New Zealand’s Food and Fibre Sector

The Farm2Future program recently provided 25 Year 12 students from 20 New Zealand schools with an immersive three-day experience exploring careers in the nation's vital food and fibre sector. Held from July 7-9, the initiative offered participants a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the industry.

The camp took students to a range of agribusinesses located in the Canterbury region. These included visits to the Rakaia Island Dairy Farm, offering insights into modern dairy operations, and Oakley’s Premium Fresh Vegetables, showcasing the fresh produce supply chain. These visits aimed to expose students to the practical realities and diverse roles available within the sector.

Farm2Future is designed to connect young talent with the opportunities present in New Zealand's primary industries. By offering firsthand exposure to farms, processing facilities, and related businesses, the program seeks to inspire the next generation of leaders and workers in agriculture, horticulture, and related fields. The initiative underscores the importance of the food and fibre sector to New Zealand's economy and encourages students to consider pathways within it.
