Farmer killed after allegedly surprising man stealing chickens

A 65-year-old farmer of Haitian nationality was found dead on Thursday afternoon in the Agüita Blanca area, along the Paraíso-Cachote road. His family claims the death occurred after the farmer surprised a man allegedly stealing his chickens and agricultural products.

The victim, known by the nickname "Papá Dios," was confronted by the alleged thief. According to Ricardo Lucas, the deceased's son, the assailant, identified as "Jimmy," also of Haitian nationality and reportedly a neighbor, was caught stealing chickens and yautías (a type of root vegetable). When the farmer called out to him and demanded he stop, the confrontation escalated, resulting in the farmer being killed with a stick and a stone to the head.

Lucas stated that the alleged aggressor had a history of theft in the area, having reportedly stolen and sold several of the farmer's chickens previously. The family is now calling for justice and urging the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) to locate and arrest the suspect, who they say fled the scene after the incident.

The body was examined by a forensic doctor and representatives of the Public Ministry, along with National Police agents. It was subsequently sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) in Azua before being handed over to the family for burial in the municipal cemetery of Paraíso.
