Farmers' President Slams Environment Ministry Ahead of Election

Schleswig-Holstein's Farmers' President Klaus-Peter Lucht has launched a scathing attack on the state's Environment Ministry, eight months ahead of the state elections. Lucht, a member of the CDU himself, directed his criticism at Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt, who represents the Green party in the governing coalition.

Lucht stated that while Agriculture Minister Cornelia Schmachtenberg (CDU) is making efforts to support agriculture, much of the critical agricultural policy is being dictated by the Environment Ministry. He expressed strong disapproval of the Green party's influence within the coalition, asserting that they exhibit a refusal to engage with the needs of rural communities and contemporary farming practices.

"The only thing in a catastrophic state is the Environment Ministry," Lucht declared, responding to the ministry's assessment that hedgerows are in a dire condition. He accused the ministry of placing order policy and bureaucracy above practical work, making it difficult for farmers to operate. Lucht believes that the decision to form a coalition with the Greens was misguided from the perspective of the agricultural sector.

Lucht's remarks were made during the presentation of the 'Action Alliance for Rural Areas.' His strong criticism highlights a significant point of tension within the governing coalition, particularly concerning environmental regulations and their impact on the agricultural industry in Schleswig-Holstein.
