Fatal accident in Galați: 76-year-old driver fatally strikes pedestrian on crosswalk

A fatal accident occurred on Sunday morning in Galați, Romania, resulting in the death of a 49-year-old pedestrian. The incident took place on Drumul de Centură street when the man was hit by a car while crossing the street on a designated crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle, a 76-year-old resident of Galați, was reportedly traveling from Prelungirea Brăilei street towards Tecuci street. Near a gas station, the car struck the pedestrian, who was identified as a 49-year-old local man. The impact of the collision proved fatal for the pedestrian.

Authorities were alerted to the accident via a 112 emergency call at 8:48 AM. Upon arrival at the scene, police conducted tests on the 76-year-old driver to check for alcohol and psychoactive substance consumption. The results of these tests were negative.

Local media reported the incident, citing the Galați Drivers Group on Facebook for a photo. Police have opened a criminal investigation into the case, classifying it as involuntary manslaughter. They are continuing their inquiries to establish all the precise circumstances surrounding the accident.
