Fatal accident: Man dies after falling eight metres at railway station

A 46-year-old man died after falling about eight metres at Neu Wulmstorf railway station in Lower Saxony's Harburg district.

First aiders found him unconscious in the pedestrian underpass on the morning of September 5 and performed resuscitation until emergency responders arrived, police said. He later died from severe head injuries.

Investigators believe the man had arrived shortly before 6 a.m. on a train from the direction of Buxtehude. He then lay down to sleep on a wall on the northern side of the platform. About 15 minutes later, he turned and fell into the underpass.

Police are seeking one of the people who helped him. The man, believed to be aged about 30 to 40, had dark hair and wore jogging clothes, a black jacket and a backpack. He left before police arrived and has been asked to contact the police station in Seevetal.
