Fatal bridge fall in Brazil: Mystery surrounds missing camera

A fatal rope-jumping accident in Brazil has raised serious questions, particularly surrounding the disappearance of the victim's camera. The 21-year-old woman fell approximately 40 meters from the decommissioned Ponte do Esqueleto bridge between Limeira and Cordeirópolis in São Paulo state.

According to reports from the news portal "G1," the three instructors arrested in connection with the incident claim they have no explanation for the missing camera. They also stated they could not comprehend how the fatal accident occurred. Video footage shows three employees carrying the woman to the edge of the bridge and pushing her off, while her safety rope remained unattached on the platform.

Two of the accused admitted to being responsible for preparing the ropes during their interrogations, but could not clarify the specific division of tasks within the team. A witness, Rafael Goulart, reported seeing an employee remove a GoPro camera from the victim's body after she fell. "The first scene I remember, seeing the girl on the ground, was an employee taking the GoPro camera off the neck strap of the body already on the ground, concerned about the equipment or to hide evidence," Goulart was quoted as saying.

The defense attorney announced plans to request the release of his clients, asserting they had neither the intention to cause the woman's death nor consciously accepted the risk of a fatal outcome. Rope jumping, an extreme sport involving static ropes and a pendulum motion to catch the fall, is not specifically regulated in Brazil. The accident has sparked discussions about demolishing the disused bridge.
