Father saves son before dying in construction site roof collapse

A tragic accident at a construction site in Mesagne, southern Italy, claimed the life of a 66-year-old man who is being hailed as a hero for saving his son.

Antonio D'Errico, the owner of a construction business, died on July 29 after a roof structure collapsed at a site where he was working. According to investigative sources, D'Errico perceived the imminent danger and acted instinctively to push his 26-year-old son out of the path of the falling debris, thereby saving his life.

Despite his heroic act, D'Errico was struck by the collapsing structure and could not be saved. Emergency medical personnel who arrived at the scene attempted resuscitation efforts, but they were unsuccessful. His son, who was reportedly transferred to the 'Perrino' hospital in Brindisi in serious condition, is the sole survivor of the incident.

Firefighters and local police are currently at the site conducting investigations to reconstruct the events leading to the collapse. The exact cause of the structural failure is under investigation.
