FBI thwarts terror attack on New York state capitol; suspect planned 100+ casualties

The FBI has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Jessica Bowie, accused of plotting a terrorist attack targeting the New York state capitol building in Albany. Federal authorities allege Bowie intended to use explosives to kill at least 100 people during a legislative session before attempting to escape to Syria.

According to the criminal complaint, Bowie expressed loyalty to ISIS online and began planning the attack in July. Investigators claim she spent weeks surveilling the capitol building, photographing it from various locations. She allegedly communicated her intentions to an individual she believed was an ISIS associate, but who was actually an FBI informant.

Bowie also discussed potential future attacks, mentioning Times Square on New Year's Eve and the White House as possible targets. During the investigation, she purchased materials she believed were for an explosive device and provided a DoorDash delivery bag, allegedly to hide a bomb. She also requested a firearm to shoot responding officers. The FBI arrested her after she took possession of an inoperable explosive device and a disabled firearm provided by confidential sources.
