FC St. Pauli Shows Support for LGBTQI+ Community After Berlin CSD Attack

Following a violent attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebration, German football club FC St. Pauli has publicly declared its support for the LGBTQI+ community. The second-division club conveyed its condolences to the victims and their loved ones, condemning the presumed Islamist attack.

In a statement, the club emphasized that hatred directed at the LGBTQI+ community is a tangible threat. "It is all the more important to take a stand together, as with all forms of misanthropy: queer or not, with a rainbow, skull, or Progress Pride flag. Against all forms of politically or religiously motivated hate," the club stated. This incident, they added, provides further motivation to demonstrate solidarity at Hamburg's upcoming CSD.

FC St. Pauli has a long-established relationship with the LGBTQI+ movement and will be participating in the Hamburg CSD parade on Saturday with its own float. The Berlin CSD was cut short on Saturday evening when a van drove into a crowd at the event, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries.
