FC St. Pauli Signs Danish Defender Marcus Mathisen

German football club FC St. Pauli has bolstered its defense by signing Danish center-back Marcus Mathisen. The club announced the transfer one day after the official start of training for the upcoming 2. Bundesliga season. Mathisen, 30, arrives on a free transfer from 1. FC Magdeburg, who will also compete in the second division next season.

Mathisen, who was trained at the prominent Danish club FC Copenhagen, spent the last two years with Magdeburg. He brings a wealth of experience to St. Pauli, having accumulated 94 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga. This familiarity with the league was a key factor in the club's decision to pursue him.

Sporting director Andreas Bornemann highlighted Mathisen's suitability for the team. "We were looking for an experienced central defender who already knows the 2. Liga and therefore will not need a long time to settle in," Bornemann stated in the club's official release. Mathisen's signing is expected to strengthen St. Pauli's backline as they prepare for the challenges of the new season.
